Crete Island Excursions
The town of Agios Nikolaos is the starting point for a number of interesting excursions along the coast and over the hills.
The guest can explore traditional Cretan villages and swim in crystal clear waters of small islands in the bay of Agios Nikolaos.
12 kilometers (7.5 miles) inland and high up the hills is the village of Kritsa, a small traditional village, with picturesque houses and a 13th century church with frescoes.
The village of Kritsa and the village of Kroustas very close to it are definitely worth exploring, as they are beautiful examples of traditional Cretan villages.
Other nearby Villages are Elounda, Plaka and Fourni.
Starting from the port deck, all-day cruises to the islets just outside the harbour will give you a taste of authentic Crete.
The two islets of Agioi Pantes (All Saints), one with a lighthouse and the other with the All Saints’ chapel, are perfect destinations for day trips.
Natural breakwaters of the harbor, now sheltering only "agrimia" (endangered Cretan wild goats, kri kri), offer a spectacular view to the town.
Spinalonga - Elounda
This small islet is a former leper colony and the site of one of the most important Venetian fortresses on Crete.
A short boat trip from the port of Agios Nikolaos, Spinalonga also offers the experience of pebble beaches with azure waters.
